* ALL THINGS ANONYMOUS
LOOK FOR YOUR IMAGES IN THE GALLERY
On Tuesdays, we unveil a fresh batch of art. Look for images submitted on or before Sunday to appear in the gallery the following Tuesday. On the same day, we may announce the Tuesday ToDoodle, a word, topic, quote or question you can use as inspiration for your next submission. (This is completely optional. You are of course always free to submit art inspired by whatever strikes your fancy.) Sometimes we post art in the gallery on other days of the week as well, so be on the lookout for new work to appear at any time.
WE WILL NOT REVEAL YOUR IDENTITY
Your privacy is our priority. This entire platform is built around the idea of anonymity in creativity. Your name will not appear on the site. Your email address will not appear on the site. Although we can make no absolute guarantee that it would be impossible for some skilled hacker to figure out who you are, WE PLEDGE TO KEEP YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION PRIVATE and hidden from view on our site. We take every precaution and extra care to conceal your identity on our site. (If you are interested in selling your art in a non-anonymous gallery, click here to find out about a new project in the works.) Read on to learn about additional measures you can take to maintain anonymity.
REMOVING METADATA FROM YOUR IMAGES
To further protect your privacy, we use a one-step process to remove detectable EXIF data from your images before posting them to the gallery. If you wish to remove EXIF data before you email them to the gallery, you are free to do so. A quick GOOGLE search will give you more information about different ways to remove EXIF data from your images.
IMAGE SIZE and RESOLUTION
The ideal size for image submission is approximately 300-900 pixels, with an average 72 dpi. The main goal of this platform is to offer the tentative artist a new path to art, a pain-free way to take the first steps toward sharing and showing new work. At the same time, we want to protect the images of your artwork from being stolen or used by a third party without your permission or consent. Therefore, for the most part, our anonymous gallery features small, low-resolution images—in order to make it more difficult for an unauthorized party to copy/reproduce artwork from the site. (Please contact us if you wish to see larger images of your artwork on the site. We will address these requests on a case-by-case basis. Thank you.)
By submitting images of your artwork to the Hatching Unknowns gallery, you are attesting that the work and the images are original to you, were made by you, are rightfully yours and are not the copyrighted property of a third party. Hatching Unknowns will display your work, but you will retain ownership of art and your images. If for some reason you anticipate a potential problem with one of your images, consider taking this one-step precaution: Before submitting images of your artwork to the HU gallery—email the image(s) to yourself. Send the email—with the image(s) inside the body of the message AND as attachments—to your primary email address using the copyright symbol © next to your full name and the date. Save a copy of that email in a secure, password-protected location. This will informally denote ownership of your work and will put a timestamp on the images. You may also want to print out a hard copy of the email to keep in your files. This is an optional and probably unnecessary step, but one that could be helpful in the rare case that there is some kind of copyright dispute regarding one of your images in the future. For full protection, you also have the option of obtaining an actual copyright for your images, but you will be required to spend more time and money to do so. Hatching Unknowns will not sell images of your art without your consent and compensation. We will not reproduce or distribute images of your art for advertising outside of the Hatching Unknowns platform without first obtaining your permission to do so.
NO OFFENSIVE IMAGES or CRIMINAL ACTIVITY
Hatching Unknowns will NOT post images of artwork deemed OFFENSIVE—specifically images that depict abuse (of people or animals) and any images that are pornographic, graphically/excessively violent, racist or misogynistic. All of our correspondence with you will remain strictly confidential, except in extreme and rare cases where there is evidence of serious criminal activity—a situation in which we reserve the right cease all correspondence with you and to block you from contributing to the Hatching Unknowns platform. If you present a threat of imminent violence against another person, we reserve the right to notify the authorities if needed.
HATCHING UNKNOWNS IS FOR ADULT, INDIVIDUAL ARTISTS ONLY
The Hatching Unknowns platform is designed for and dedicated to individual adult artists. It is not for minors or corporations. Please do not use this platform if you are under age 18 or if you are promoting images or advertisements on behalf of a large corporation. Bullies, hecklers and Internet trolls are also not welcome here.
